About LUTs

A LUT (look-up table) remaps the colors of an image. 3D LUTs (.cube with LUT_3D_SIZE) map full RGB combinations and are used for creative “looks” and camera conversions; 1D LUTs adjust each channel separately (typical for gamma curves).

Why doesn't it match my software 100%?

This view applies the LUT on the screen values without input/output color management or space conversions (e.g. Log to Rec.709). A technical camera LUT expects footage in its source color space; here it's a quick approximation to preview the look.

Is it safe to upload my proprietary LUT?

Yes: nothing is uploaded. The file is read with the browser's file API and processed locally; there is no server receiving your data.

Check the LUT before it reaches the timeline

The recurring scene: a client or DP sends a .cube file — “the look from the shoot” — and you need to know what it actually does before conforming a whole timeline around it. Drop the LUT and a reference still here and you get an instant before/after comparison, entirely in the browser. No project setup, no uploading a frame that's under NDA.

The previewer implements 3D LUTs with trilinear interpolation and 1D LUTs, the same math your grading tools use (verified against an identity LUT for zero error). That makes it a fair prediction of what Resolve, Premiere or Baselight will show — and a fast way to spot the two classic LUT failures: a technical LUT applied to the wrong input (a LogC-to-Rec709 conversion applied to already-Rec709 footage crushes blacks and clips skies) and a low-resolution creative LUT causing banding in gradients. If you're unsure which curve and gamut the source actually is, the color & log reference maps them per camera family.

It's also handy in reverse: before sending your own look LUT to a vendor, sanity-check it against a neutral chart frame to confirm it does only what you intend.

Is my LUT or image uploaded anywhere?

No. File parsing, interpolation and rendering all happen locally in your browser — nothing is transmitted. You can use production stills freely.

What's the difference between a 1D and a 3D LUT?

A 1D LUT maps each channel independently (contrast, gamma); a 3D LUT maps R, G and B jointly on a lattice (17³, 33³, 65³ points), which is required for cross-channel operations like hue shifts and film emulation. Camera and creative looks are almost always 3D.

Why does the LUT look wrong on my footage?

Usually an input mismatch: the LUT expects a specific input (say ARRI LogC3) and your frame is something else (Rec709, S-Log3). A conversion LUT is only valid for its documented input and output spaces — check the LUT's naming and your clip's color space first.
